Art in Elgin - Art Walks

Elgin's local Art Galleries, The Chamber of Commerce, Main Street Board, City, and Economic Development Corporation are all working together to produce the Elgin Art Walk on the second Saturday of the months of March, April, May, June, September, October, November and December, from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Art Walk is in Elgin's Historic Downtown district and takes place in existing commercial galleries, non-profit arts spaces and what are called "other walls"; restaurants and retail stores. Each exhibits art and welcomes viewers with open doors, later hours and refreshments.

Elgin's program for branding the city as an Arts Destination - Art Walk, promotes all kinds of art and artists, offers alternative places to see and learn about art and hopes to bring newcomers, as well as welcome return visitors to the growing arts community in the city.

What's New for the May 10, 2008 Art Walk?

Elgin's next Art Walk will be May 10th, 2008, in the Historic Downtown District. The event is expanding rapidly, and new opportunities are evolving for both artists and art-lovers alike!

Blue Moon Market - Veterans Park - 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

The Blue Moon Market is going to open in Veteran's Park from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. in downtown Elgin. More than fifteen vendors will have plants, collectables, crafts, and antiques for those who visit during the day. For more information contact Melissa at 512-627-BLUE.

Artists Early Showing - Noon until 9:00 p.m.

At noon, the Owen & Bogart building (formerly the Bremond House Gallery) will open with artists who want to show for the additional hours prior to the Art Walk. Several of our artists are now coming from out of town and they want to be able to show for nine hours instead of three to make their trip worthwhile.

Young Artists Contest - Your Elgin - 5:00 until 9:00 p.m.

The Elgin Arts Association is having a Young Artists Contest from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m. in the Franklin Bank Community Room on Main Street.  Susan Snelson and Ava Barker will be watching over the budding artists as they learn different skills.  Then, all of the work that was created by the young artists will be judged by the public between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. during the June 14th Art Walk - winners to be announced that evening!  Ribbons will be awarded to participants. Winners will have their work shown in the downtown area between Art Walks and will be able to participate in a much larger collaborative painting on canvas of the Historic Downtown Elgin skyline.  Categories are: 8 and under, 9-12 and 13-18. Children 12 and under MUST be accompanied by an adult!

The April Young Artists Contest Winners are displayed in the windows of the old Pharmacy building on Main St.

Specific Information for Artists, Participating Businesses and a Map for those attending
